I would go with a Microsoft wired laser mouse. For my laptop I use the mouse in the link below (its wireless, but gets 6 months battery life on one AA battery). For my desktops I have always used MS mice I just like the way they work. I bought the gigabyte mouse in the second link for my guest room PC and I love it, very responsive for a sub 20$ mouse, nice weight to it as well. Hope this helps you
